How to Get the Most Out of Invisalign
January 23, 2022 4:47 amStraightening your teeth with Invisalign® is an investment of time and money. Here are some tips to make your clear aligners orthodontic treatment as efficient as possible!
1. Keep Your Clear Aligners Clean
During your treatment, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene and to keep your aligners clean. Brush your teeth and rinse your aligners when you wake up, after eating, and before going to bed. Be sure to floss every day too. Brush your aligners multiple times a day with liquid soap and room temperature water. Soak them once a day in a denture or retainer cleaner.
Following these hygiene tips will keep your aligners free of bacteria and food particles! Without proper care and cleaning, your aligners will discolor and harbor bacteria, increasing your risk of dental disease.
2. Follow Your Clear Aligner Treatment
Follow the schedule Dr. Villamayor gives you to change and wear your clear aligners. While individual cases can vary slightly, typically each set of clear aligners should be worn 20-22 hours a day for two weeks before progressing to the next set of aligners.
Not wearing your aligners enough each day will prolong your treatment!
3. Remember to Wear Your Retainer
You will eventually graduate from aligners to wearing a retainer to help keep your teeth straight. After you’ve completed your Invisalign treatment, it is understandable to be excited about not having to wear aligners all the time. But if you don’t wear your retainer, your teeth can shift back.
Dr. Villamayor will determine when and how long you should wear your retainer after treatment. Keep in mind that your retainer helps you retain the results of your Invisalign treatment!
