Fun, Tooth-Friendly Alternatives to Easter Candy

For many children, Easter is a time to pig out on candy. Yet while those jelly beans might taste good in the moment, the cavities afterwards could destroy any pleasure they may have enjoyed that day. So, what to do? How can your kids enjoy Easter treats without harming their teeth? Below we've come up with a few teeth-friendly alternatives to candy so your kids can enjoy the holiday while maintaining superb dental health!

Serve Fun & Healthy Treats

Make like the Easter bunny and serve carrots! Add some tasty hummus to make it more appealing to the kids. Alternatively, serve bunny-shaped whole-grain crackers without added sugar. Other good options include sunflower or pumpkin seeds, apple slices, or nuts. Even eggs will do!

Enjoy Treats That Aren't Food-Related

Make the day special by surprising your kids in other ways that have nothing to do with food. For example, trade in the chocolate bunny for a stuffed bunny instead. Stuff egg-shaped sidewalk chalk, coloring books, stickers, and outdoor toys into your child's Easter basket instead of candies. You can even add colorful toothbrushes featuring your child's favorite cartoon character to encourage good dental hygiene.

Choose Chocolate or Sugar-Free Candy

This one sounds incredibly counterintuitive, but if you must serve something sweet, choose dark chocolate over candy. Dark chocolate contains CBH, which can help harden tooth enamel. Chocolate also melts quickly in the mouth and can easily be washed away with water, reducing bacteria's ability to feast and produce enamel-damaging acids. Alternatively, serve sugar-free candies, which will be much better for your children's teeth than their sugary counterparts since there is no sugar for bad oral bacteria to feed upon.
